Optional Tutorial Sessions

We are pleased to offer two full day tutorial sessions prior to CPS:

Understanding the Value of Electrical Testing for Power Transformers
Paper - Understanding XFMR Testing
This tutorial/training focuses on how diagnostic techniques can be applied to power transformers as part of the standard condition assessment protocol. The audience will be provided with an understanding, application, and analysis of these tests, supported by specially selected case studies validating the value that these diagnostic tests bring to testing, and finally assessing, power transformers.
Detailed Information

IEC 61850 Tutorial
This tutorial discusses the benefits of digital substations, introduces the basic concepts of IEC 61850 and gives practical examples of its different applications for the Protection, Automation, and Control (PAC) of electric power systems. The first part of the tutorial covers the requirements for virtualization based on the principles of object modeling and functional decomposition. The second part focuses on the different services defined by the standard and how they are used for the design and implementation of PAC systems, including the SCADA, station bus and process bus interfaces in the substation. The third part of the tutorial describes the System Configuration Language and its applications for the engineering of substation PAC systems. The last part covers the testing aspects of digital substations from the early project design phase through commissioning and subsequent supervision of the PAC system.
