Automated Protection Testing in the lab (Part 1)

These hands-on sessions introduce protection testing using OMICRON's Test Universe and CMC test sets. You will learn how to create custom test plans using our basic testing modules, including QuickCMC, State Sequencer, Ramping, and Overcurrent, before executing the plan to test relays in our lab. Laptops with the required software will be provided, so no special equipment is needed.

This two-hour lecture provides a practical overview of generator protection testing. Participants will explore common protection functions, test preparation, relay settings, test procedures, and result evaluation. Current Transformers are critical components of both protection and metering applications on the electrical grid. Testing them ensures that they will properly and reliably function when in service. This course will cover the theory and fundamentals of current transformers and various testing methods.

The second XRIO session will cover using formulas to link the custom parameters to the RIO section of the test object. The focus will be on distance element linking, with a technical demonstration followed by some hands-on time. (Test Universe on laptop required for hands on)
