Introduction to IEC 61850

Intro and background on digital substations according to IEC 61850 standard. 

Automated Protection Testing in the lab (Part 1)

These hands-on sessions introduce protection testing using OMICRON's Test Universe and CMC test sets. You will learn how to create custom test plans using our basic testing modules, including QuickCMC, State Sequencer, Ramping, and Overcurrent, before executing the plan to test relays in our lab. Laptops with the required software will be provided, so no special equipment is needed.

Generator Protection Overview 

This two-hour lecture provides a practical overview of generator protection testing. Participants will explore common protection functions, test preparation, relay settings, test procedures, and result evaluation. Topics include differential, stator ground, loss-of-field, reverse-power, overexcitation, and out-of-step protection, supported by practical testing examples and common troubleshooting considerations.

Advanced Automated Testing with XRIO 1

The first XRIO session will cover how to build a custom test object section. There will be some hands-on time to build blocks and parameters matching a relay in Test Universe, then importing the settings to change the parameter values.  (Test Universe on laptop required for hands on)

Synchronization in Digital Substations; Test and Verify

Time synchronization between IEDs is crucial in a digital substation, how to test and verify a substation timing system.

Theory and Hands on CT Testing

Current Transformers are critical components of both protection and metering applications on the electrical grid. Testing them ensures that they will properly and reliably function when in service. This course will cover the theory and fundamentals of current transformers and various testing methods.

Advanced Automated Testing with XRIO 2

The second XRIO session will cover using formulas to link the custom parameters to the RIO section of the test object. The focus will be on distance element linking, with a technical demonstration followed by some hands-on time. (Test Universe on laptop required for hands on)

Protection Testing in a IEC 61850 Environment

How to test IED's with digital signals - isolating an IED and configuring digital signals.

Recloser Control Testing in the Lab

This hands-on session will cover recloser controller testing with the ARCO 400 test set using the ARCO Control software.

TRACKS - PART VII

Pick one option:

Advanced Automated Testing with XRIO 3

The third XRIO session will cover linking custom test object parameters to test modules. There will be more parameters added to control the test template, such as flags for module activation or test point definition. There will be a demonstration followed by hands-on time. (Test Universe on laptop required for hands on)
